Join us on Saturdays during term-time in person or online to obtain an Art History-related Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). As an EPQ student you will benefit from our A Level teaching for the year, gaining key Art History knowledge and skills and we will provide mentoring and support for you as you work through your EPQ.

EPQs are accredited qualifications, recognised by UCAS, which are equivalent to half an A Level and can be shaped as projects or essays. A good result in your EPQ can lead to a differentiated offer from some universities and is a good way of exploring independent research and learning as well as an opportunity to explore different subject areas. EPQs can also be extremely helpful when writing your personal statement for university. For more information on EPQs see here

Art History Link-Up has run this EPQ course since 2018. You will be assigned a volunteer EOQ mentor from Art History Link-Up’s team of volunteer EPQ mentors from across the sectors including head teachers, curators, editors and academics. The students are further supported by Dr John Taylor, a chief examiner for the EPQ. EPQ submission is organised by AHLU.

We are delighted to be working again with the Courtauld at Somerset House on The Strand, London, where students can benefit from a dedicated study centre and the incredible collection of art on display at the Courtauld Gallery.

Throughout the year you will complete the first two modules of the Art History A Level qualification, allowing you the option to continue with us for another year and sit A level exams should you wish.

Our online classes are interactive and run by expert teachers, with the support of a team of specialist teaching assistants. They run break-out group discussions using interactive Miro whiteboard technology and teaching resources via Google Classroom. Visiting lecturers include Dr John Taylor, architect of the original EPQ and an Edexcel Pearson EPQ Chief Examiner.

AHLU offers students weekly online homework clubs and individual EPQ and study support from AHLU’s Student Team plus individually assigned specialist mentors from across the sector. We also offer our students support with Art History university applications, access to academic resources, work experience, information about careers in the arts, and membership of our alumni organisation.

*All places are free for state sixth form students, with priority given to candidates from a widening participation background, and to those with exceptional aptitude and ability for the course. Widening participation indicators include eligibility for Pupil Premium (i.e. free school meals) and/or a parent who has not attended FE/HE
